The California Technology Agency (CTA) was honored for innovation in Information Technology (IT) in California by the non-profit association for Web professionals and its WhyITNow.org initiative to promote jobs, innovation and productivity in California.
Christy Quinlan, Acting Secretary of the CTA, accepted the award and explained to the summit participants the steps that were taken to improve operations statewide through the Infrastructure Consolidation Program. By improving the efficiency, effectiveness, agility, security and reliability of the state agency data processing operations, the CTA will save California taxpayers about $1.5 billion over five years according to estimates by legislative committees.The IT Innovators award was announced and presented to the CTA by Gary Page, Consultant for the California Department of Education and Advisory Board Member of the WhyITNow.org initiative.

Not only is the State of California a legal entity that provides governance for a civil society of 37 million people, it has approximately 254,000 employees that rely on 170,000 PCs, 9,500 Servers, and over 100 email systems. Information technology equipment accounts for 40 percent of energy used within office environments.
Over 50 leading IT Industry, education and government professionals including Monster.com, Cisco Systems, the California Department of Education, The California Community Chancellors Office and Governet also attended the award ceremony. The California Technology Agency provides leadership for California’s information technology programs and works collaboratively with other information technology leaders throughout state government.
